About me
Nahja is a second-generation traditional sailmaker and a true rarity in the modern world – a craftsperson who grew up fully immersed in the craft that would become her profession. As the daughter of sailors and sailmakers, she grew up on and around tall ships and working in the family sail loft. She first climbed aloft on a three-masted square-rigger at the age of three, and as was an active member of a crew throughout her youth. By the age of 17, she was overseeing her own crew aloft rigging a Barquentine.
Even as a child she participated in simple sailmaking and rigging tasks and was frequently involved in every aspect of the craft – including the full up and down rigging of several tall ships over the years. She is now the owner and operator of Force 10 Sailmaking and Rigging, a micro-business on Marrowstone Island that caters exclusively to Tall Ships and traditional crafts.
