Hello, I am Josh Kali of Josh Kali Ocean Racing. In March of 2025 I became the first American to sail solo around the world on a boat under 20ft, by completing the first ever Mcintyre Mini Globe Race. I built my boat ‘Skookum’ myself from plywood and timber finished in fiberglass in Lacey, WA over a period of two and a half years. I then trailered the boat from Olympia to North Carolina where I launched it and sailed to Antigua for the start of the event in February 2025. 11 entrants in one design home made boats sailed over 24,000nm over 12months to complete a lap of the planet. I would love to share what it was like to cross oceans in a 19ft boat that I built myself and hopefully inspire you to try something difficult and new!
