John Taussig is a paramedic, maritime educator, and Executive Director of Backcountry Medical Guides and its seafaring division, Maritime Medical Guides, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on wilderness and marine medicine. With more than two decades of experience in prehospital emergency care across ground and air ambulance systems, he specializes in translating clinical medicine into practical skills for people operating in remote and maritime environments.John has spent the past decade developing hands-on training programs that bridge the gap between traditional first aid and the realities of medicine at sea, supporting sailors, guides, and outdoor professionals with practical patient assessment, risk management, and decision-making strategies. His work integrates training, continuing education, and telehealth support to help individuals and crews build confidence and preparedness wherever their adventures take them.
