During this demonstration we will work through the steps typically taken to pattern planks for traditional wooden boats. During each step, attendees will get a glimpse of the complexity involved in shaping rough sawn lumber into compound curved planking.

Steam bending involves exposing wood to heat and moisture from steam, which softens the lignin and cellulose fibers, making the wood pliable. Once bent around a form or jig and allowed to cool, the wood retains its new shape. This method has been used in boat building for centuries and is still used today.

Turn dry fabric into a peel and stick epoxy laminate that can be cut to precise shapes and brought to the project. Most necessary for carbon fiber as it will not wet out and go clear like fiberglass though the process works for most fabrics. Less air less weight less mess. For large tapping or tabbing jobs one person can feed several other laminators increasing productivity. Simple tools and materials make this technique a great choice for professional and DIY builders.
