There was a time, on the River Clyde, when years as an apprentice rigger were followed by years as a journeyman rigger, and one became a master rigger finally when one’s knowledge of the craft was complete.  These rigs were not just spliced and seized; they were also held together with a chain of knowledge unbroken by time and tempered by Cape Horn.  “Clydebuilt” was not just a perception of quality—it was a definition.

This presentation using PowerPoint photos will feature the complete restoration of the 1896 3-masted barque GLENLEE from a derelict hulk lying abandoned in Seville, Spain, to her current world class restoration, which led to her being named Flagship of the Year by the National Historic Ships UK organization. GLENLEE now rests peacefully in Glasgow, Scotland, on the Clyde… the river of her birth.
